Inside view of the Meridian Free Library building in 1971. The old library building was located at the intersection of Meridian & Idaho. At this time the library was run by the Occident Club, but in 1974 the Occident Club turned over control of the library to form a library district. For several years following their relinquishing of library control, the Occident Club still held their club meetings in the library.
